We need a strong voice for our country, to follow David Cameron
Commenting on the Conservative Party leadership contest, Jacqueline Foster MEP said:
'Following the result of the referendum, and the decision of David Cameron to resign, we are in the process of electing a new leader of the Conservative Party and Prime Minister. I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank David for all he has done for our Party and our country. He has been a fantastic Prime Minister who has delivered for Britain despite the worst economic inheritance from the last Labour Government. I am personally very sorry he is going prematurely but understand and respect his decision to do so. He will be sorely missed.
'Our duty as a Party is to ensure we elect an experienced, strong and capable negotiator to lead our country. Now more than ever we need someone who has the stature and authority to get the best deal for Britain as we embark on withdrawal from the EU and who will also be a tough negotiator when the time comes.
'Without hesitation, my personal decision is to support Theresa May. She, more than anyone, has the qualities outlined above and the resilience to do the job. Whether you voted 'Leave' or 'Remain' is now irrelevant as many of the leading Brexiteers have joined her team. This is now about the best person for the job!'
